Memorial Day meditation /prayer based on Lectionary John 14:27-28

Living God

Whose love is always there for us in the face of the daily challenges of this world,

Who has shown us new life offered to us through the ministry of your Son, Jesus,

And who has reassured us in His ministry that you will always be with us;

We come to you this morning with our hearts troubled by the weight of the world.  We each have our own problems of daily living, things that have been within our hearts, and remain ahead of us in the coming days. We especially remember this day those who gave up their lives to further the cause of our freedom from fear and oppression.

In the midst of these challenges we turn our hearts towards you, seeking the soothing balm of your eternal presence.

Be with us in our time of suffering, uphold us when we feel pushed down and defeated, bring us back to a feeling of calm acceptance in the face of the confusion that we encounter.

Most of all, give us understanding of the needs of your children who are calling for your loving care. As we see those who are hungry may we take part in finding them food. For those in prison may we help them rebuild their lives. For those without shelter give us the resources to help them find relief. In all things we are yours, the sheep of your pasture, the keepers of your vineyard. In the midst of our own needs, our own frustrations and limitations, hold us in your loving hands and show us the way to peace that passes understanding. May we be the means that others find their way to you.

For we ask this all in the Name of your Son our Lord. Amen
