Mother's Day Prayer: based on John 10:25-28

Mother's Day Prayer: based on John 10:25-28

Nurturing Spirit,

Who was there in the creation of the universe in its complexity and beauty,

Who breathed life into each of us and set us into the midst of our families and communities,

Who is present with all your creation at all times: when we are joyful and celebrating our achievements,

Or sorrowful at the setbacks that are part of living in this world;

We your people come to you in celebration of your enduring promise for us. As the sheep in your pasture we hear your voice. We know that you are with us in our trials and challenges. Even in loss, and suffering, and death we know that in you we will never perish. We rise above the noise of our surroundings, the distractions of our modern world, to see that your love is ever present, is there to sustain us, and heal the wounds of our injured souls.

This week we celebrate the gifts that mothers have brought into our lives. Whether it was the one who raised us from birth, or another who was called to take her place, we give thanks to You, Creator God, for the miracle of birth and new life that sustains us.

In giving thanks this morning we rededicate our lives to you. Where we see those in need, let us care for them. Where there is loneliness or hunger or homelessness, let us be your loving hands to hold up these your children.

For all of us are in need of your care in a world that challenges us. We ask for your continued support, and love, and strength as we seek to do your will.

For we ask this in the Name of your Son, Jesus. Amen
